Imagine if you were born in 1900.
When you are 14, World War I begins and ends when you are 18. The war leaves 22 million dead.
Shortly thereafter, a global epidemic - the Spanish flue - breaks out, killing about 50 million people. And you stay alive and you are 20 years old.
When you are 29, you survive the global economic crisis that began with the collapse of the New York Stock Exchange, causing inflation, unemployment and starvation.
When you are 33 Nazis come to power.
When you are 39, World War II begins and ends when you are 45. The war leaves around 70-80 million dead, 6 million Jews killed in the Holocaust in cold blood.
When you're 50, the Korean War begins.
When you are 55, the Vietnam War begins and ends when you are 75 years old.
A child born in 1985 thinks grandparents have no idea how difficult life is, but they have survived several world wars and catastrophes.
Today in the new epidemic, we live in a new world that has all the conveniences. But we complain because we have to wear masks. We complain that we have to stay confined to our homes where we have food, electricity, running water, Wi-Fi, and Netflix!
This did not exist in the past. But humanity survived those days and never lost its joy of life.
A little change in our perspective can do miracles.
We must be grateful that we are alive.
